How a Summer Solstice Ritual Taught Me to Receive (In Just 30 Seconds!)
Oct 23, 2025
You made it through the Summer Solstice portal-- a two week window between June 20 and July 7.
Are you ready to receive? To be seen and heard?
Check out how I learned what 30 seconds of being seen and heard could do!
One, I held an intimate solstice ceremony at my home to coincide with the exact moment when the earth was in solstice at 10:42pm.
If you know me, you know I do not shine after 5pm. I am a morning bunny.
But for some reason I wanted to make our gathering align with this exact moment.
I did not know what I was going to do exactly.
And we meandered as a group until my husband and frequency mate Michael Jamanis shouted across the circle:
"Aminata what's the significance of the solstice?"
Oh, well then I didn't feel confused anymore.
I just shared from the heart:
The solstice window is the ideal time to look into your heart; notice what is bringing you joy and inspiration; and double down on that for the rest of the year!
And just like that, the ritual arose from what was shared.
Each person stood in the center of the circle and shared what was bringing them joy, and then everyone else shouted encouragement and "Hell yes!" statements to them for 30 whole seconds.
For example, one person wanted to play more chamber music; another wanted to do her new job well; and someone else wanted to fill up his passport with foreign travel.
Mine was to host a soul journey and/or more ceremonial events in person.
Nothing that earth shattering.
But it was unforgettable!
How often do you get to hear people sing your praises or support your dreams/pleasures without question?
Not often enough!
Thirty seconds seemed to go on forever when it was my turn to receive.
And, I had to work to stay open to all the loving energy people were giving me.
I am used to giving--teaching, mom-ing, serving.
Giving feels safer rather than dropping my guard and opening my heart to RECEIVE.
(Sound familiar?)
But wow!
Opening to receive is juicy and way, way less lonely than always giving.
This brings me to my second story.
A day or so after this ritual, my beloved touched me, and I noticed my desire to pull away and numb out with my audio book.
Why?
I didn't want to feel the anger and sadness that was inside.
But, I took some time alone to feel and cry and vocalize loudly.
I let my guard down; felt my feelings; and accepted myself.
Days later I found myself spontaneously opening to love from my partner, from the Himalyan Pine at my friend Amy's house; and from my ancestors.
I felt drenched in Love.
Yep, once again it was juicy!
What I'm taking into the next six months:
1️⃣ Ask myself each day what will bring me joy or inspiration and do that!
2️⃣ If I'm feeling lonely or "Not enough," take a few minutes to open my heart and let myself feel and practice accepting the feelings.
3️⃣ Remember who I really am! (More about this next time!)
Thankfully, I'm not doing this alone.
I have a coach.
I have a spiritual mentor.
I have the Mother Tree Community and the Queens within that.
